EastWest Institute Announces Launch of a New Regional Security Program in Collaboration with Noted Philanthropist Sezgin Baran Korkmaz

New York, NY - Dec. 12, 2016 - The EastWest Institute (EWI) announced today the launch of a collaboration with noted Turkish entrepreneur Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, toward the foundation of a new program focusing on regional stability issues. This initiative will see the establishment of The EastWest Institute Center for Peace and Regional Stability. The center’s programmatic work will focus on regional relations, countering violent extremism, and the refugee crisis and displaced persons.

“The EastWest Institute brings to the table a unique capacity to drive dialogue and build trust allowing stakeholders to engage more effectively and reach solutions during a critical period for Turkey and its neighbors,” stated Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, founder and CEO of SBK Holding. “I am very pleased to work closely with the institute and ensure they are on the ground, in Turkey, leveraging their experience and insights.”

“The institute is privileged to partner with Mr. Korkmaz and his team, using this opportunity to employ our capabilities and serve as a resource on a range of regional security issues,” said Ambassador Cameron Munter, Chief Executive Officer and President of the EastWest Institute. “Turkey’s position at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and the Middle East makes it a crucial player in the region’s future. This partnership will allow EWI to apply its expertise toward formulating and advocating potential solutions that may benefit the wider region.”

The EastWest Institute Center for Peace and Regional Stability will be based in Istanbul, and is scheduled to become operational in early 2017.
