News | November 07, 2016

The EastWest Institute (EWI) is partnering with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Geneva-based UN agency for ICT, to organize panel discussions at the upcoming ITU Telecom World 2016, an international platform for governments, companies of all sizes and other experts working together to accelerate ICT innovation for social and economic development. The forum will be held on November 14-17 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The theme for this year’s forum is “Collaborating in the Digital Economy” and will emphasize the importance of promoting collaboration between stakeholders within the ICT industry. The event will feature policymakers and senior business leaders from around the world.

This year, the EastWest Institute will host two sessions:

  • On Tuesday, November 15, EWI will host a closed roundtable session on global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) security standards to discuss creating a level playing field in global trade for ICT and cybersecurity solution vendors. As part of the discussion, EWI will present its latest policy report “Purchasing Secure ICT Products and Services: A Buyers Guide,” which can be accessed here.

  • On Wednesday, November 16, EWI will host an open plenary panel on “ICT Trust, Innovation, and Trade” to report on the roundtable session and discuss the needs and challenges of governments as buyers, and of ICT suppliers. More information about this event, including the panelists, is available here.

More information about the conference can be found on the ITU Telecom World 2016 website.
