David E. Sanger: The Perfect Weapon
Multimedia | January 30, 2019

David Sanger sits down with Bruce McConnell to discuss his latest book The Perfect Weapon: War, Sabotage, and Fear in the Cyber Age, which explores the destructive potential of cyber weapons. Sanger share his insights on what policymakers are doing to address this issue, which has radically transformed geopolitics.

"Cyber has become the primary means for countries to undercut each other—to manipulate each others' opinions, sometimes their machinery—but to do it in a short-of-war way," says Sanger. "Unlike nuclear weapons, you can dial them [cyber weapons] up or dial them down."

David Sanger is a national security correspondent for the New York Times, and a member of three teams that won the Pulitzer Prize, most recently in 2017 for International Reporting. In addition to being a bestselling author, he is also a professor of national security policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
