Mr. Wallach held numerous positions including director of the International Peace Academy and the People For the American Way Foundation.

Mr. Wallach received his B.A., J.D. and LL.D. (hon.) from Columbia University and LLD (hon.) from the University of Maine. He practiced law in New York City until serving in the United States Navy (1943-46). He was a director and chief executive officer (as president and chairman) of Central National-Gottesman Inc. from 1956 to 1979, consequently serving as a director, chairman and senior vice chairman.

Through the years, Mr. Wallach was a director of various corporations and non-profit institutions. He was director of the International Peace Academy, People For the American Way Foundation and a co-founder and chairman emeritus of the EastWest Institute, a member emeritus of the Board of Visitors of Columbia College, a member of the Chairman’s Council of the United Nations Association and the President’s Council of The New York Public Library.
