Dr. Tughral Yamin retired as a brigadier from the Pakistan Army and subsequently pursued a career in academia.

He is the founding member and associate dean of the Centre for International Peace and Stability at the National University of Sciences and Technology in Islamabad. He has been instrumental in initiating the doctoral and master’s degree programs in peace and conflict studies at the center. He is also a member of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan for framing the national curriculum for peace and conflict studies.

He earned his doctorate from the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies at the Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad. His dissertation was on the impact of weapons of mass destruction on the strategic stability of South Asia. In 2013, he was a fellow of the International Program of the Cooperative Monitoring Center at the Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dr. Yamin’s academic interests include cybersecurity, strategic decision-making, arms control and non-proliferation of WMDs, refugees and migration issues, UN peacekeeping operations, international humanitarian law and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He is the author of two books, The Evolution of Nuclear Deterrence & its Impact on South Asian Stability (2014) and Developing Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) in Information-Space between India and Pakistan (2014). The publication of his latest book on UN peacekeeping operations in Somalia is forthcoming. He has authored a number of research articles and book chapters. He has also presented papers at national and international conferences. Dr. Yamin and his wife run SAYA, a charity school in the suburbs of Islamabad for poor children.
