The EastWest Institute honored Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns with the inaugural John Edwin Mroz Global Statesman Award in memory of the institute’s founder, president and chief executive officer, at its annual Awards Dinner at the Four Seasons on October 16. United Nations Deputy-Secretary Jan Eliasson presented the award, along with EWI Chairman Ross Perot, Jr. and Board Members Stephen Heintz, Zuhal Kurt and Armen Sarkissian. Nearly 200 people attended—including dignitaries and leaders from around the globe.

In perpetuity, the award will honor men and women who share, “John’s vision of a peaceful world, who work passionately to achieve it and who embody his values as a trust-builder.”
