Nelson Mandela, 1918–2013

The world mourns the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela, a lasting symbol around the globe for justice, morality and tireless perseverance. 

“One of the most extraordinary liberation leaders in human history, he ended apartheid in South Africa, achieving this without the blood bath that so many at the time had predicted,” John Mroz, president and CEO of the EastWest Institute said. “He will forever be a light to follow for all nations.”

His passing spurred numerous reflections on his life and work.
