Sarah Miles Williams is a former director of Communications. During her tenure, she helped steward the EWI brand and market its initiatives, impact and thought leadership to its stakeholders around the world.
Sarah is a strategic marketing professional with over 25 years of experience in executive and advisory roles. She has particular expertise managing premium service brands and multi-channel, data-driven marketing to affluent and high-net-worth individuals and institutions in order to raise awareness, build relationships and motivate action. Her experience spans wealth management, philanthropy, private equity, insurance, credit cards, China/Hong Kong banking, China-related higher education, community social service, the performing arts and biodiversity conservation.
She speaks Mandarin Chinese and has lived and worked in Greater China, as well as the UK, and has traveled extensively in Asia and Europe. She has an M.B.A. from The Wharton School and a B.A. in East Asian Studies magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard College. She was awarded a post-graduate fellowship grant for a year in Taiwan studying Mandarin Chinese.
Her non-profit marketing experience includes introducing potential strategic Chinese partners to University of London, and developing donor-driven communications plans for The New York Community Trust, a $1.7 billion New York City institution, and Fauna & Flora International, a highly-regarded, UK-based worldwide conservation organization. She has also served as a Trustee of the Academy of Ancient Music, a leading UK orchestra, and Lyric Chamber Music Society of New York.
In the for-profit arena, Sarah served several premium brands. She was Vice President at the U.S. interactive marketing agency Digitas, where she was a senior leader of the American Express and Time Life client relationships. She was part of the launch team for the American Express Centurion Card (a.k.a. the “Black” Card), the company’s top premium card. As Vice President of Marketing at The Chase Manhattan Private Bank and CIGNA Financial Advisors, Sarah led initiatives to build profitable client relationships through market research, multi-channel marketing and database-driven analytics. At American Express, Sarah managed integrated marketing campaigns to increase the number of upscale hotel and retail establishments accepting Amex cards and related card usage.
She is a member of Women’s Forum, an organization of leading New York women in the professions, business, arts and nonprofits. She is also a member of China Institute and the Asia Society.
